Foam & Polystyrene Rendering, Adelaide

Foam render — over EPS (expanded polystyrene) cladding and panels — is a lightweight, insulating way to build and finish a wall, rendered with reinforcing mesh, a base coat and a flexible acrylic finish to the manufacturer’s spec.

What foam (EPS) cladding is

EPS foam panels are a lightweight cladding system: rigid polystyrene fixed to the structure, which adds insulation and lets you shape features and profiles that brick can’t. It’s common on modern Adelaide builds and is the backbone of decorative foam mouldings around windows and eaves.

Rendering foam correctly

Foam is rendered with a reinforcing mesh embedded in a base coat over the whole surface, then finished with a flexible acrylic topcoat. The mesh is non-negotiable — it’s what gives an otherwise soft substrate an impact-resistant, crack-resistant skin.

Done to spec, a rendered foam wall is durable, insulating and clean-lined. We also render decorative foam mouldings and profiles to match the main finish.

FAQ

Foam & Polystyrene Rendering — your questions

What is foam render?

It’s rendering applied over EPS (expanded polystyrene) foam cladding. A reinforcing mesh is embedded in a base coat over the foam, then finished with a flexible acrylic topcoat, giving a lightweight insulated wall a durable rendered skin.

Is rendered foam durable?

Yes, when it’s done to spec. The mesh-reinforced base coat is what makes a soft foam substrate impact- and crack-resistant. Correct reinforcement is the whole game with foam.

Can you render over polystyrene?

Yes — EPS/polystyrene cladding is designed to be rendered with a mesh, base coat and acrylic finish. It’s also used for decorative mouldings, which we render to match.
