Your rendering questions

What is rendering?

Rendering is applying a coat (or coats) of render — a cement or acrylic-based material — over a wall to give it a smooth, even, weatherproof and finished surface. It’s used to modernise brick, finish new blueboard, Hebel and foam walls, and protect the wall underneath.

What types of render do you do?

Acrylic render, traditional cement (solid) render, Venetian plaster and texture coating — over brickwork, Hebel, blueboard and foam. See our services pages for the detail on each.

Can you render over painted brick?

Yes, with the right preparation. Loose or flaking paint is removed and the surface prepared so the render bonds to a sound base rather than to failing paint. Dino checks the wall before quoting so there are no surprises.

Does render crack?

Any rigid render can develop fine cracks if the wall moves, but correct prep, control joints, the right coats and — with acrylic — a flexible finish keep it to a minimum. Hairline cracks in cement render are also straightforward to repair.

Do you have to paint render?

It depends on the finish. Traditional cement render is usually painted after it cures. Acrylic render and texture coatings are coloured all the way through, so they don’t need a separate paint coat.

How long does render last?

A correctly applied render lasts many years — often decades — especially a flexible acrylic finish built for Adelaide’s weather. Good prep and control joints are what protect it long-term.

How do you clean rendered walls?

A gentle wash keeps rendered walls looking fresh — a soft brush or low-pressure rinse and mild detergent for general grime. Avoid aggressive high pressure that can damage the surface. Coloured-through finishes hold their colour well between cleans.

What’s the difference between acrylic and cement render?

Cement render is traditional sand-and-cement — breathable and strong, usually painted after curing. Acrylic render has a polymer blended in, so it’s more flexible, more weather-resistant and coloured-through. We compare them in detail on our acrylic vs cement render page.

Do you render whole houses or just feature walls?

Both. We render complete home exteriors, front elevations, extensions and new builds, as well as single feature walls and interior finishes like Venetian plaster.

Which areas of Adelaide do you cover?

Across the Adelaide metro area and into select rural areas — from the inner suburbs to the coast, the north, the south and the Hills. If you’re not sure we reach you, phone Dino and ask.

How much does rendering cost?

It’s priced by the job — mainly the wall area, substrate, finish and access. We don’t publish a fixed price list because it would be misleading, but on-site quotes are free. Our rendering cost guide explains exactly what drives the price.
